Description

NGC 4753 is a lenticular galaxy located about 60 MLy's away in the constellation Virgo.  It was discovered by William Herschel in 1784..  The lines surrounding the core are dust lanes probably accreted into a disk from the merger with a dwarf galaxy.  Another explanation is that the dust in NGC 4753 originated from red giant stars in the galaxy.  The disk is estimated to be about a half billion to a billion years old.
